Leader Training Opening MT(Get-to-know the trainees)
Before beginning leader training, it is important to gain a better understanding of each trainee. Being aware of each trainees family and social circumstances, spirituality, and biblical understanding will facilitate the training, making it more profuse and polished. There are several helpful ways to get to know the trainees.
Interview
Once the trainees have been selected, the leader must interview each trainee to better understand his or her traits and personality and to examine the trainees attitude toward the training.
Please refer to the attached form C.
The Opening MT
The purpose of the Opening Retreat is not only for the leader to get to know the trainees but also to provide an opportunity for the trainees themselves to get to know each other and thereby foster a familiar and dynamic atmosphere. It is advisable to allow enough time for the Opening MT prior to actually starting the training. There are various ways to conduct the Opening MT; however the following principles are recommended .
1.Make it fun
Do not center the retreat around prayer or preaching. Remember that the purpose of the Opening retreat is to get to know each trainee.
2.Have the MT at someones home
It will be most ideal to have the retreat at a trainees home if there is a trainee who has a large enough house to host the retreat. However, if there is no one who can host the retreat and there is no other suitable place other than the church, then it can be held at the church as well.
3.Let them participate as couples
For the female trainees, it may be more difficult to encourage their husbands to participate in the retreat. In case not all female trainees were able to have their husbands to participate, it will be better to conduct the retreat with just the female trainees.
4.Have them prepare letters and gifts.
In case the trainees were able to participate in the retreat with their spouses, have the trainees prepare a gift and a letter saying that they will do their best in the training for their respective spouses, and have the spouses prepare a gift and a letter saying that they will support and pray for them. Let the trainees and the spouses spend some time reading their letters to each other. Such occasion will promote an intimate atmosphere, helping the leaders and the trainees to get to know each other and their family.
